Agnostic thoughts

Prélude: Every once in a while, I get the urge to write something ‘serious’. I always feel embarrassed afterwards, but what the hell, I’m posting this anyway. I wouldn’t go so far as to call myself an atheist—other people can claim that honour. Atheism is serious, and religion is something I don’t care for enough [...]

Ecmascript 4

ECMAScript 4, the fourth system syndrome—my thoughts exactly when I read about some of the features of Javascript 2.

Distracted, much.

Lately I’ve been distracted a lot. I use a couple of computers simultaneously at work—my laptop and the office desktop. It’s wonderful, and it’s distracting. The mail client runs on one machine, the browser on another. I lose track of what’s happening where. Synergy is wonderful, but I now that I’ve got a taste for [...]

RMS on Lisp and Emacs

RMS: “But, along the way, I wrote a text editor, Emacs. The interesting idea about Emacs was that it had a programming language, and the user's editing commands would be written in that interpreted programming language, so that you could load new commands into your editor while you were editing. Added a1Books.co.in to my bookPrices script.

Some book reviews

I haven’t had time to properly review the books I’ve read in the last month or so. So here I am, doing some instant reviews… Peace, by Gene Wolfe Gene Wolfe is always fun to read, even though you don’t understand what’s going on half of the time. Peace is very open-ended—you are not sure [...]

Delayed

Had a coffee, which was terrible, a brownie which was even worse, and a chocolate sundae which was very good. 22:15 hours Now the [...]

Delhi, Books, etc.

Nikhil was kind enough to show me around Delhi a bit yesterday—it’s an amazing city. Also, he introduced me to Daryaganj, the second-hand book market where I’ll be getting the majority of my books from, for a while atleast. This time, I got six for Rs. 240.

New number

I’ve finally went and gotten myself a local (mobile) phone number. I’ll be sending out the email later on, but drop me a note if I miss notifying someone. The old number’s scrapped.

Two round-trips

I’ll be in Mumbai from 13to to 16th October, and again from 9th to 12th November. It’ll be good to be back home for a while, I miss my folks there. And I can carry some more books over here. Flying has become relatively cheap in India—a couple of years back no one would have [...]
